Wetzone Water Park Receives Top Honors

Posted by Administrator on Nov 8, 2005

ROWLETT, TX, OCTOBER 14, 2005 – The Wet Zone, Rowlett’s Family Waterpark, was recognized for excellence by the World Waterpark Association during the international trade association’s annual convention held last week in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The City-owned waterpark rose above water-themed amusement centers around the world to receive top honors for its employee training program, supervisor training program and advertising materials.

“The Wet Zone is owned by every member of our community, so we should all be proud to receive these honors, said Mayor Shane Johnson. “I want to thank our Parks and Recreation Director Jim Browne for his outstanding leadership over our parks programs, Heath Olinger for continuing to do a terrific job managing our waterpark, and the entire team of lifeguards and staff for their hard work and commitment to making the Wet Zone a first class family waterpark.

The World Waterpark Association’s Superior Waterpark Inspiration & Motivation (SWIM) Award was presented to the Wet Zone in recognition of both an outstanding employee training program and its supervisor training program.

The success of these training programs was exemplified this past season when the Wet Zone staff acted quickly to save the life of a young girl spotted floating face down in the pool. Following the proper protocol practiced over and over by the Wet Zone staff, lifeguard Matt Falls went in the water after the guest and was quickly joined by his supervisors Heath Olinger, Kasey Rutledge and Nick Vines, who took over and revived the child.

“All the training we go through in the off season and the in-services we have weekly during the season paid off with this rescue, says Heath Olinger, manager of the Wet Zone. “While that’s our job, it is rewarding and motivating to receive international recognition and these awards for our focus on training and safety.

The Wet Zone also received a Wave Review Award recognizing outstanding advertising and promotional materials. The Wet Zone’s 2005 marketing materials were honored as the Best Print Media out of more than 200 entries from around the world. The print pieces produced in-house featured a redesigned logo and included a direct mail postcard, advertisements and brochure.

“These prestigious awards showcase the hard work and dedication necessary to develop and implement successful training and marketing programs, World Waterpark officials stated during the presentation of the awards to Mr. Olinger in Las Vegas. “WWA is proud to bestow SWIM! and Wave Awards on the exceptional facilities that represent the waterpark industry in the professional, helpful and caring manner its guests have come to expect.

Bereaved mother creates keepsakes to help others heal

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bereaved mother creates keepsakes to help others heal

East Northport, NY July 2005- In 2002, Susan Mosquera was a young mother whose world was turned upside down when her third child died at birth from a complete placental abruption. Her own life was in jeopardy as well from the massive blood loss. After a long road of physical and emotional recovery, artisan Susan Mosquera is helping to raise awareness about pregnancy and child loss through her jewelry and keepsakes.

“Grieving parents want their child to be remembered, acknowledged and not forgotten or their death to be in vain, says Susan Mosquera. “Particularly in pregnancy and infant loss, there are very few mementos, so bereaved parents are left to search for or create their own keepsakes. However, finding items that are meaningful and appropriate can be difficult. In response, Mrs. Mosquera has created several unique and heartwarming pieces of jewelry and decorative items as a way to provide comfort for those touched by the loss of a child, no matter what age. Her most popular piece, the “Footprints Charm, is a sterling silver heart shaped charm with two footprints etched into the front and blackened to represent the ink footprints done at birth. The back reads, always in my heart.

Susan Mosquera strongly believes in awareness, research, education and activism to prevent future child loss. A portion of every sale is donated to charitable causes, which supports this. “Our children are our most precious gifts and we must protect them. I hope to make a difference by contributing to child advocacy causes.

In 1988, former President Ronald Reagan declared October to be National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Susan Mosquera will be selling pieces from her “My Forever Child collection at local memorial services, including Winthrop University Hospital’s Walk to Remember in Eisenhower Park on October 1st, 2005. She will be donating a part of the proceeds to the Winthrop Bereavement Program.

Susan Mosquera has been making jewelry since 1999 and has earned the Graduate Gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America. She enjoys learning and incorporating new techniques into her creations. She has completed classes in goldsmithing, silversmithing, precious metal clay, wax carving, design and rendering at well renowned institutions in New York City and the Art League of Long Island.
