Our History

MetroplexDirectory.com has helped people find Dallas–Fort Worth businesses since 2000. Here is how the site has changed over more than 25 years, and where it is headed now.

The name: a printed DFW directory

The name comes from Metroplex Directory, a printed guide to Dallas–Fort Worth businesses. The website carried the name online, where people were starting to look for local businesses.

2000: MetroplexDirectory.com goes online

The first version of the site launched in 2000: a hand-built directory of Dallas–Fort Worth businesses and categories. By 2001 it had a tagline that would stay with it for almost two decades: “Where Dallas / Fort Worth clicks.”

2003–2012: Dallas yellow pages

With its yellow wordmark and long category lists, the site became a go-to “Dallas yellow pages” online. For years it ranked at the top of search results for searches like Dallas business directory and Dallas yellow pages.

2015: Named a top Dallas citation site

In 2015, BrightLocal, a leading local SEO company, published its list of the top local citation sites for the 100 largest US cities. MetroplexDirectory.com was included in the Dallas list, alongside the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas Observer and the Dallas Regional Chamber.

2020–2023: The Dallas skyline

The site took on the Dallas skyline at night as its signature image, and moved to new directory software.

2026: Rebuilt around verified local data

After a few quieter years, MetroplexDirectory was rebuilt in 2026. Every business was re-checked before it was listed, and closed businesses were left out. Each listing now shows when its details were last confirmed, and chain locations each have their own street-specific page, so people and AI search tools can tell one business, and one location, from another.

The skyline is back on the homepage, and so is the old promise: Where DFW clicks for business.

Do you remember the printed Metroplex Directory or an early version of the site? We would love to hear from you. Business owners can also find and claim their listing.
